Mahindra Takes Hybrid Route; Planning Car By 2015
You could see Mahindra hybrid cars in India within 3 years. Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that the ambitious Indian carmaker has started working on a hybrid car that will be launched by 2015.
A team of 14 people along with a European consultant is reported to be working 27x7 on the hybrid car at the newly established research and development (R&D) centre in Oragadam in Chennai. The carmaker has invested Rs 300 crore on the project.

Mahindra has decided to develop the hybrid car at the right time as fuel prices in India have touched sky heights in the recent times. It is expected that the demand for hybrid cars will grow rapidly in the coming years. Hybrid cars consume moderate fuel bringing down running costs.
The carmaker had displayed a hybrid prototype of its Scorpio SUV in the 2008 Auto Expo. This year, it also showcased an electric Verito at the auto show. The Honda Civic Hybrid was the first hybrid car that was launched in the Indian market followed by the Toyota Prius.
