Will We See Honda's New Diesel Engine Soon?

Honda has developed its new diesel engine under its Earth Dreams Technology in which it is aiming to develop more eco friendly technologies. As expected the Honda's 1.6-litre diesel engine has been named as the i-DTEC engine. It is turbocharged for more fuel economy.
The first car to be powered by Honda's new diesel engine will be the 2012 Civic hatchback to be launched in Europe by late 2012. Honda has not yet revealed when this engine will power cars being sold in India. There have been many rumours that Honda will launch the City diesel in India before the end of this year.
However Honda has denied any such development and has stuck to its words that a diesel powered Honda will be in the Indian car market only by 2013. The 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine can generate as much as 119bhp and 300Nm of torque. It is most suited for the City sedan and the Jazz hatchback.
Honda has claimed this engine will emit just 95 grams of CO2 per kilometre. Further this engine has been developed using a new light weight, high strength material. This is expected to keep the car's fuel efficiency at a higher level.
Honda has said it will begin production of this diesel engine at its plant in the UK. Since most of the engines and engine components for India have been imported from Thailand, it is understood that we need to wait a bit longer to see Honda's diesel engine in India. But do not be surprised if Honda does push the plans a bit and launched a diesel powered City or Jazz by this Diwali just to make us happy.
