Nissan Unveils Electric NV200 in Detroit Auto Show

Nissan eNV200 Concept
Nissan, the Japanese carmaker unveiled its famous NV 200 van in India under the brand name Evalia. This new van is expected to enter the market within the next three months and is powered by a 1.5-litre Dci diesel engine. This engine will help the Evalia sell well in India as the demand for diesel cars has increased astronomically. But Nissan has a wholly different NV200 for America.

Nissan has unveiled an electric powered eNV 200 at the ongoing Detroit Show. The eNV 200 is being billed as the next Taxi for New York. Nissan has said some of these electric vans are alreay being run on the streets of New York.

The eNV 200 will help reduce the high levels of pollution in the Big Apple. The American city ha a huge number of taxis, all of them running on gasoline. Replacing this huge fleet of vehicles with electric cars will definitely help reduce pollution. Nissan appears to be buoyed by its successful launch of its Leaf fully electric car.

The new eNV 200 is powered by a 80kW AC synchronous motor that generates 280Nm of torque. As expected the eNV 200 also has the same power train mechanism including the single speed transmission found in the Leaf.

Nissan has designed the concept's interiors based on its theme of being eco friendly. Such cars that are being launched in the US and in Europe must also find some space on our Indian roads. The need for proper infrastructure for electric cars will increase in some time and such infrastructure needs to be developed soon so that we also can have clean yet efficient means of transport.
