Maruti Suzuki To Launch Ertiga On April 11

The Ertiga is a very important car for Maruti Suzuki. It is the first car with a seating capacity of more than five people and a diesel engine coming from Maruti. The carmaker who has been a specialist of small cars has been forced to build bigger cars considering the growing demand for such cars.
The Ertiga, a name derived from the word tiger, is expected to do robust sales once it is launched. There is little doubt about that considering it will be available with both petrol and diesel engines and is a Maruti. But most importantly, the Ertiga needs to be priced intelligently to make a dent in the market share of segment leader – Toyota Innova.
The Ertiga will be powered by a 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine capable of delivering 94bhp and 130Nm of torque. The highly preferred diesel variant will be powered by a Fiat derived 1.3-litre Multijet unit capable of churning out 90bhp and 200 torques.
Reports say the new changes in vehicle taxes will increase the Ertiga's price by 2 per cent. Maruti Suzuki is said to be undecided over the number of variants for the Ertiga considering the Indian government's proposal to increase CENVAT on diesel cars. It was previously reported that the Ertiga will have three variants each of petrol and diesel.
Earlier reports indicated the Ertiga will be priced between Rs.7 lakhs and Rs.9 lakhs. This will be an attractive price tag when compared to other models such as the Toyota Innova and the Mahindra Xylo. The Ertiga MPV is slightly smaller than its competitors but the flexibility in its seating will provide any extra space when needed.
