Mahindra To Ramp Up XUV 500 Production

It took Mahindra three months to reopen bookings again. It was sure there would be high demand and hence set up an online lottery where interested people had to pay Rs.80,000 to apply. The second booking was open for ten days and the company has received more than 25,000 bookings. However there are just 7,200 cars available. This will mean at least 18,000 people who had entered the booking process will not be able to get the XUV 500.
Mahindra has decided to boost production at its plant to at least 3,000 units per month to satisfy local demand. The company is planning to launch the XUV 500 in right hand drive markets across the globe but is is currently struggling to satiate the local demand.
Any increase in production will be readily lapped up by Indian buyers looking at the current situation. If Mahindra has to really make the XUV 500 a global SUV, it has to either increase production to 5,000 units or reduce the number of cars it intends to sell here in India.
