Hero Motocorp Suppliers Face Strike Heat

Hero-Splendor
Nearly 1,200 permanent workers at Satyam Auto and Rockman Industries which supply auto components to Hero MotoCorp's biggest plant at Haridwar have gone on strike demanding high wages and the right to form workers' unions. However, the leading two-wheeler manufacturer claimed that production has not been affected at the plant.

While Satyam Auto supplies plastic parts and two-wheeler chasis, Rockman Industries provide metal casting for engine and gears among other components to the company's Haridwar facility. The employees at the supply units are demanding equal facilities with workers in other states of the country.

A senior executive at Hero Motocorp said: "There has been no impact on our production due to the labour issue at one of our ancillaries' factories." Meanwhile, executives at both supplying units remained silent on the issue.

The Haridwar factory produces more than two million units a year including the bestselling Splendor and Passion bikes. The place where the manufacturing unit situates is a tax-free zone that allows excise and income tax benefits for local manufacturing and is promoted by the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand.
