Tata Nano Diesel Found Testing

The news about a diesel version of the Tata Nano smal car had been doing the rounds in the automotive circle for quite a while, but there was no confirmation on this from the carmaker's side. Now, it has been reported that the diesel Nano was caught testing for the first time.

Earlier there were reports that the diesel Nano will be launched March 2012. But, now it could be expected that the car could be launched by 2012 end or early 2013. There are no big changes to the design of the car, as per sources.

The Nano had recorded its best ever sales figures in the month of March. But still Tata Motors needs to sell at least 1,50,000 Nanos per year to achieve the break even from the production plant.

The Nano diesel is expected to be powered by a 700-800cc twin-cylinder turbocharged DiCOR engine that will be extremely fuel efficient at around 40kmpl. The diesel variant is likely to cost 30 per cent more than the current petrol model.
