Suzuki recalls 1 Lakh Swifts; Not In India
The Swift models that have been recalled have been built in Japan and more than half of the recalled Swifts have been sold in Japan and the rest have been exported to other countries such as Australia and some European countries. Suzuki Motor Corporation has reported four instances of fuel leaks in the Swift.
Suzuki has announced the recall of 109,000 Swifts to rectify a faulty fuel pipe that could lead to a leak in petrol. Maruti Suzuki builds its Swift in its Indian plants and it does not have the defect that has lead to the global recall of the Swift. Maruti Suzuki procures much of its parts for the Swift locally and this has helped avoid a recall in India.
Maruti Suzuki India spokesperson while responding to queries about the Swift's global recall has stated: “The Swift cars made and sold in India by Maruti Suzuki is not impacted by this recall.”
According to media reports, 55,146 Swifts will be recalled in Japan and 53,801 units will be recalled in other international markets. All the recalled Swifts have been built between September 2010 and April 2012.
The Maruti Suzuki swift is the Indian carmaker's best selling cars in recent months. Its sales have increased very quickly since the launch of the new generation model. It can be said hat the new Swift is one of the reasons why Maruti Suzuki India has not lost mush of its market share despite steep fall in sales of small petrol cars.
