Hyundai Motors is planning to increase its portfolio of cars offered in India by launching more premium cars. The two cars that are have been confirmed for India by Hyundai are the new Fluidic Sonata and the Elantra. Both these cars were on display at the 12th Delhi Auto Expo.

Arvind Saxena who is Hyundai Motor India's Director (Marketing & Sales) has stated Hyundai will bring in the Elantra mid level car soon after the commercial launch of the new Fluidic Sonata. The Elantra is Hyundai's highest selling sedan in the US and will be priced in the range of Rs10 lakhs to Rs.13 lakhs.

The Sonata has always been considered as a cheaper alternative for Mercedes-Benz cars. In fact the previous edition model had so much similarity with the E-Class sedan people took some to identify it as a Hyundai. The Sonata will compete against up market cars such as the Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry, Skoda Superb and the Honda Accord.

The Korean carmaker has now grown up and has developed its own design theme. The Fluidic design has given a distinct look to all Hyundai cars. The Sonata will be available with just a 2.2-litre petrol engine.

The Sonata is a premium sedan that will be priced above Rs.15 lakhs. The Elantra on the other hand will be competing against other mid size sedans such as the Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and the Volkswagen Jetta. It will be powered by a petrol as well as a diesel engine. The Elantra will also carry the Fluidic design concept.
