Govt Planning Petrol Price Hike By Rs5, Get Ready?
The central government had earlier set up a process according to which it would meet oil companies every fortnight to evaluate fuel prices. There was a time when fuel prices were revised every fifteen days. But the government hit a break on petrol price hikes the moment the election schedules for the five states were announced.
Oil companies then started suffering losses which escalated further due to the increase in crude oil prices in the international market. These companies have now said the loss per litre of petrol has crossed Rs.5 and they are no longer in a position to handle such losses. To make matters worse, the international crisis in Iran could lead to further increase in crude oil prices.
Although a petrol price hike was expected considering the long gap from the previous revision of prices, the extent of the price hike will be what that will be most shocking. It is wise to fill your tanks before the price of petrol is revised. Make sure you go to a petrol bunk before evening as many of them shut shop by late evening to avoid a rush.
Just as a petrol price hike is unavoidable for the government, it is very difficult for commuters to reduce their travel to save costs. But the only way to reduce the cost of fuel on your pocket is to follow some fuel saving tips. Drivespark has always been encouraging improved fuel economy in vehicles and here are some tips to help you handle the petrol price hike.
Do not take your vehicle out for small trips, Instead take a walk, or even cycle. This will save fuel and also keep you fit.
Do not keep your engine running at traffic signals. You might spend more fuel while idling the engine than while running the car.
Get your car serviced on time to avoid a drop in mileage. Do not use low quality engine oil as it will increase fuel consumption. Always maintain optimal air pressure in your tyres. Low pressure will increase the surface area of your tyres and hence will increase drag making your vehicle consume more fuel.
Run your vehicle between 40 and 60kmpl. Vehicles require more fuel at speeds above 80kmpl.
Public transport can be an ideal alternative to driving in city roads. You will be able to relax without the trouble of driving through the busy city traffic.
