Skoda To Invest Rs.300 Crores In India

Skoda Rapid
Skoda India is planning to invest as much as Rs.300 crores in India to boost its production, launch new models and thereby increasing sales. The Volkswagen Group owned Czech carmaker is keen to help its parent company reach its goal of 1.5 million sales per year by 2018.

Skoda India's investment will be used to increase localization in production which will help decrease costs. It is also working on new models that will create a wider product portfolio than its existing one. The company has also made changes in its organizational structure.

Skoda India has so far made comparatively smaller investments in India. The current news clearly indicates the growing importance of India in its global plans. Skoda considers India as one of the pillars of the main strategic pillars of its growth strategy.

Speaking about its investments in India, Skoda India n its statement said: “The funds will go into enlargement of production depth (localisation of production ) and expansion of production capacity at the Aurangabad.”

Skoda has emerged as a strong brand in India and has become attractive after the launch of Volkswagen cars in India. It has an image of being a premium car brand thanks to its Superb, Laura and Yeti and now its cars are cheaper than similar Volkswagen Models. This has meant a visible increase in sales.

Skoda's plans to launch new models here in India is also welcome. New Skoda cars will help give the brand a refreshed look. At least two new Skodas that we expect to see in the coming years are the refreshed Octavia and the Citigo city car.
