Skoda Rapid Burns Due To Short Circuit
According to news reports, the Skoda Rapid caught fire in New Delhi. Nitin Malhotra, the owner of the car had parked the car and had gone to visit a doctor when the fire accident occurred. By the time fire tenders came to the spot and started to douse the fire, most of the Rapid's front parts were burnt.
There are no specific details about the Skoda Rapid's fire as of now. Skoda India on its part has stated that it will investigate the matter and is already in touch with the car's owner. In a statement on the incident, Skoda India said: “We are aware of the case and have been in constant touch with the customer. Our technical team will carry out an inspection as early as tomorrow to evaluate the case. In the interim, we have extended full cooperation to the customer to reduce any inconvenience.”
Cars burning down due to short circuits is not something new. A Volkswagen Vento, the car on which the Skoda Rapid is based on, was also reported to have caught fire in Pune. The Volkswagen Vento's fire was so severe that the driver of the car had to be dragged out of it after breaking the wind screen. The driver had already suffered severe burns and succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
Volkswagen has so far not revealed the reason behind the Vento catching fire. It is alarming that fire accidents have happened in two distinctly similar cars. It is a well known fact that the Skoda Rapid is just a re-badged version of the Volkswagen Vento.
Instances of old cars catching fire due to bad maintenance or wrongly fitted spare parts can be considered normal. But what is worrying is new cars getting burnt down within months of purchase. The Skoda Rapid was bought by Nitin Malhotra only in February.
