Maruti Considering Swift Sport Launch
The Swift is undoubtedly Maruti Suzuki's best product in recent years. Indian drivers have liked it for its performance, handling and practicality and they can now enjoy its power too if Maruti Suzuki does what many are hoping it will do.
There are reports that state Maruti Suzuki is considering to launch the Swift Sport in India. The Swift Sport is a sportier, more powerful variant of the Swift currently sold in Europe as a three door hatchback and in a five door version in Australia. It is powered by a 1.6-litre engine that can deliver a mouth watering 136bhp.
The Swift Sport comes with distinctive exterior features such as a different grille, rear spoiler, alloy wheels, side skirts and a good looking body kit. The interior also gets a sporty look with an all black finish. Suzuki has added ESP to improve safety.
The Swift Sport to be launched in India could either get the 96bhp 1.4-litre engine found in the Ertiga or the 1.6-litre version seen in the SX4. Both these engines can be fitted in to the Swift Sport without any re-engineering. This means Maruti Suzuki does not have to invest too much to launch the Swift Sport in India.
Maruti Suzuki has so far not spoken abo0ut the Swift Sport. The Indian carmaker had earlier stated that there must be sufficient demand to warrant an Indian version of the Swift Sport. This will possibly be Maruti's first hot hatch and will the league of other powerful hatchbacks such as the VW Polo and the Skoda Fabia.
If the Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport does become a reality in the coming days, expected it to be priced well above the top end ZXI variant of the Sport. The Swift Sport's price in India should be closer to Rs.7 lakhs. Such a price will mean there will be no mad rush from every interested Swift buyer. The Swift Sport is a car built for the enthusiast and mind you its power and performance will blow your mind away. Beware
