Vento Tdi Burns Down In Pune, Driver Saved

Volkswagen Vento Fire
A Volkswagen Vento TDi has been reported to have caught fire in Pune sparking fears about even diesel cars burning down. The incident involving the Vento happened near the Vaishali restaurant.

We have earlier reported about several Tat Nanos burning down with no apparent reason. There has also been a case when a Swift DZire caught fire and nothing could be salvaged from it. This is the first time a diesel car, that too from a reputed carmaker like Volkswagen has been reported to have caught fire.

The VW Vento that caught fire was owned by Mr Kailash Suresh Gupta. He got in to the car in the morning and started the car. Smoke and flames began appearing within a minute forcing Mr Gupta to stop the car. The doors of the car were locked and Mr Gupta was struggling to get out of the car as the seat belt he had worn was stuck.

Even as the Vento was being engulfed by flames, Mr Gupta started seeking help. People around the area informed fire and police authorities and tried to save the car's occupant. With the doors not budging, Mr Gupta had to be brought out by breaking the wind shield. He had already suffered burns up to 60 per cent.

The police and fire authorities are investigating the case and a reason for the fire will be known soon. There has been no official statement from Volkswagen about the fire.
