Tata Motors March Sales Up 20%

Tata Motors said its passenger vehicles recorded sales of 36,984 ubits in March eclipsing a previous record for highest monthly sales. The percentage of increase when compared to the previous March is 34 per cent.
Looking at performances of individual cars the Indica range of models saw the highest increase in sales at 65 per cent. Tata Motors sold 11,420 units of the Indica. The Tata Nano small car also saw an increase in sales from 8,707 units in last March to 10,475 units this March. The Indigo range also saw an increase in sales of 15% at 8,295 units.
Tata Motors March sales also saw an increase in sales of SUVs such as the Safari and Sumo along with the MPV Aria. The three vehicles put together posted sales of 6,794 units. The carmaker has been seeing a steady increase of these three models.
Tata Motors commercial vehicle business also saw an increase in sales at 17 per cent after selling 58,063 vehicles as against 49,753 ubits sold in March 2011. Light commercial vehicle sales during March stood to 36,091 units, a growth of 37 per cent. Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 21,972 units last month, lower by six per cent over March 2011.
Car sales in March have been high due to fears that prices would increase following the union budget. Many buyers had rushed to showrooms in February fearing a price hike and the trend continued in March too. Other camrakers such as Mahindra and Mahindra, Toyota and Honda have also reported an increase in sales.
