Hyundai Suffers Slight Drop In February Sales

Hyundai Motor has had a successful run in the domestic market by posting its best ever sales performance in February with 36,805 vehicles. The Fluidic Verna has been a rage in the market. The i10 and the i20 continue their impressive performance. The only disappointment for Hyundai has been the Eon small car that has not been able to perform at expected levels. However, Hyundai has credited the increase in domestic sales to the Eon.
Although the Eon has been developed to challenge India's best selling car, Alto, it is yet to post monthly sales greater than 7,500 units. In fact the Eon has been blamed for the reduced sales of Hyundai's long running small car, Santro.
The major concern for Hyundai Motor India for February will be its sharp decline in exports. The company saw its exports cut by 22.33 per cent to 15,050 units as against the 19,378 cars exported in February 2011.
HMIL director (marketing and sales) Arvind Saxena said: “Even in the tough market situation, Eon sales have helped us to achieve the highest ever domestic sales.”
Hyundai has said it sold a total of 45,124 cars in the A2 segment which consists of the i10, i20, Eon and Santro. It also sold 6,584 units of the Accent and Verna. Sales of the Sonata sedan have stopped due to the imminent launch of the Fluidic Sonata. The Santa Fe SUV has registered 147 sales.
