Tata Motors Planning To Add 900cc Engine To Nano
Tata Motors is now reportedly trying to add a more powerful engine to the Nano. This move is to attract the younger crowd who did not prefer the Nano for its lack of power. The carmaker is planning to use a three cylinder 800cc or 900cc engine that can generate anywhere between 60bhp and 80bhp.
This new engine will be powerful enough to make the Nano a hot hatch and just a city runabout. Another positive aspect of the new Nano will be its engine sound. Many car fans have disliked the Nano for its engine sound. Many have compered the small car with an auto rickshaw only because of its engine sound. The new engine will offer a more car like sound.
If you were thinking this new engine could hamper the Nano's mileage. The Tata Nano is currently the country's most fuel efficient petrol car at 25kmpl. The new three cylinder engine will be powerful yet fuel efficient and the mileage is expected to be well over 20kmpl. A decent figure for a car offer 80bhp.
If Tata Motors truly wants to attract young car buyers to the Nano, just improved power will not do the trick. It must also have a look at the small car's interiors and add more user friendly features too. Yes this new Nano will be more expensive than the current model. But we are told it will be an additional variant and will not replace the existing model.
