Skoda Unveils Its Cheapest Car - 5 Door Citigo

Skoda Citigo
Skoda, the Czech carmaker has unveiled the five door version of its latest small car Citigo. The Citigo is the re-badged version of the Volkswagen Up and will soon hit the European car market. The five door Citigo will be on display at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The five door Citigo is not a surprise as Volkswagen has already unveiled the five door variant of the Up on which Skoda's cheapest car is based on. There is not much difference between the Citigo and the VW up in terms of looks, design or even power train options.

Powered by a one litre three cylinder petrol engine the Citigo will get two tuned variants of the engine. Engine will either deliver 59bhp or 75bhp. There are reports that state the Citigo will also be available in an all electric avatar similar to the VW Up.

Volkswagen has stated that the Up will be aimed at growing markets such as India. It is yet unclear when the small car will have its Indian Debut. The Skoda Citigo five door variant is expected to follow the VW Up. It is yet unclear when these two cars will be available here.

The Citigo is expected to be priced lower than the VW Up following the tradition of pricing Skoda cars lower than VW. Reports say the Citigo will be in India by 2013. However Skoda or Volkswagen have not confirmed this. They are still ascertaining if these two small cars can be made economically to make them their entry level cars in India.
