Maruti Suzuki Posts 5% Jump In Jan Sales

Maruti Suzuki ad earlier reported a 7.1 per cent fall in sales in December. The carmaker has stated that its domestic sales in January had increased marginally to 1,01,047 units from 1,00,422 units in January 2011. The biggest performer for Maruti Suzuki in January 2012 has been its exports which registered a 54.34 per cent increase to 14,386 units.
Maruti Suzuki has managed just a 2.38 per cent increase in sales of its small cars which include the Alto, 800, A-Star and Wagon R. Compact cars which include the Swift, Zen Estilo and Ritz have performed better registering a 22.35 per cent increase in sales.
The models that saw a sales decline were the Swift DZire which saw a decline of 11.61 units to 8,637 units and the SX4. Bookings for this car have reduced after Maruti Suzuki unveiled the next generation Swift DZire. People are preferring to wait for the new car despite Maruti Suzuki announcing it would continue building the current model. The SX4's sales fell by 9.77 per cent to 1,939 units.
