Volvo CNG Buses In Cities Soon ?

Volvo, the Swedish bus maker informed its roll out of 8400 CNG version city buses during the third quarter of this year, preferably in Delhi and Mumbai in the first phase. This was revealed by the company President who could not disclose further details. Currently the CNG buses are on field trial in Delhi and he hinted that the price of this buses may rise by 15-20% than the existing diesel models.

Volvo is building these CNG buses from its Hoskote facility in a bid to grab more potential in the Indian bus segment. In the meantime, the company is gearing for introducing the hybrid version too with the coupled mode of electricity and diesel fuels, to reduce the fuel cost by 40%.

The president further said that for Volvo, the Indian bus market is integral in its growth stint and in the coming days, it may press the localization to a greater level meeting the local and Asian standards. In the process, India will get the status as the fourth hub for Volvo after China, Mexico and Europe. To reach the ultimate status of a global hub, the country will get the company"s activities of production, development and export.

The process, he said , will enhance Volvo to feed the needs of local and export market. The anticipated volume of the Indian wing would be 5000 units in this calendar year followed by exclusive Indian product sooner.
