Volkswagen Sales Up By 244% In May

Volkswagen, the Germany car maker has reported a whopping 244 per cent hike in total sales for May. Volkswagen sold 6,185 cars this May as as against 1,796 units in the same month last year. Volkswagen sold a cumulative 5,889 Polos and Ventos and 184 units of the Passat BlueMotion. Volkswagen's sales during January- May stood at 33,958 units. The company had sold 32,627 units in same period last year.

In a recent statement, Volkswagen Group Sales India, Member of Board & Director, Passenger Cars, Neeraj Garg, said, "We are pleased with the overall performance and acceptability of our products in India which has enabled us to outshine our last year's sales in five months." He also said Volkswagen was hoping to continue its sales performance despite the current market scenario.

The Volkswagen Polo hatchback and the Vento sedan hs taken the Indian market by storm. The Vento has already unseated the Honda City as the highest selling mid-level sedan in India. The Passat Bluemotion has also had a positive response from buyers. Volkswagen's May sales have surprised analysts as they had not expected the German carmaker to make such headway in a rather slowed down market.
