Volkswagen Targeting The Pre-owned Car Segment
There has been a consistent growth in both the new car and old car sales in India. The reasons cited for this are the increased economy level of people and the availability of even luxury cars in the pre-owned sale market. Among the global brands BMW and Mercedes-Benz have initiated the momentum in this old car segment since 2009.
This prompted the other German giant Volkswagen too to enter into the Indian car sector. The Volkswagen director for passenger cars said the company entered the Indian market some time ago and has sensed the customers" desire to change the Volkswagen cars in India once in three years. Hence the pre-owned car segment has more potential which has necessitated the company to step in.
Volkswagen is expected to enter the Indian pre-owned car formally during May this year with its premium brands, Audi and Skoda. To add grease to this run, the company"s financial wing, Volkswagen Finance India has been accorded with the license by RBI to operate as the non-banking finance company for pre-owned cars.
