Volkswagen Will Get More Dealerships!

The German car maker Volkswagen is likely to expand its dealer network in the Indian market to reach the unreached. This will add to the company"s strategy to launch new products and domestic manufacturing, said the company"s Member of Supervisory Board of Management at the Geneva Motor show.

He linked the move with the established brand image and said the company"s real stint lies on launching more models. He also mentioned the global reputation earned by VW"s products which envisaged to think of further expansion and investments. The task before the company is to penetrate the 1.2 billion folks of the country and for this the need of the hour is expansion of dealer network, he said. There could be 120 showrooms spread across the nation.

Though a late entrant to the Indian market, VW has stabilized its presence with its quality oriented vehicles in the emerging Indian market. He said the launch of its Vento sedan on its Polo platform made the difference from other key players. The company is aiming to introduce the Volkswagen UP small car during September this year though at an expensive cost to the Indian market. The car will meet the local needs for a compact car. Currently the company operates from Pune and has business with its Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen brands. This year the company enters into the 10th year of its presence since its launch of Skoda in 2001 and subsequent launches of Audi and Volkswagen. However, the cars have their individual identity in the market with different dealings.

The company"s global brands are Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Scania, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge) and Volkswagen Passenger Cars. The most sought after car globally is Volkswagen but there are more premium units in the platform. The first prominent launch had been Passat in 2007 followed by Jetta in the subsequent year which are locally assembled. VW continued its potential by launching its New Beetle and Touareg SUV in 2009 along with the Phaeton high-end unit. In the same month the company was accorded the status with the World Car of the Year 2010 to its Polo hatchback.
VW has lot in its store to offer from low-consumption small cars to luxury class vehicles and trucks. Much of its vehicles are rolled out from its 60 production plants around the world.
