Volkswagen To Launch New Jetta On August 17th

It is much publicized fact that Maruti Suzuki will be launching the new Swift hatchback on August 17th. The much anticipated Swift is already in the news as Maruti Suzuki has started a website for the new car along with publishing print ads in national newspapers. Now reports are saying another high-profile car launch will happen on the same date

Volkswagen India has also decided to launch its new Jetta on August 17th. This is quite uncharacteristic of Volkswagen as the Jetta's launch will be drowned in the brouhaha around the launch of the new Swift.

The Volkswagen Jetta is a D-segment sedan that will compete with cars such as the Toyota Corolla, Skoda Laura, Chevrolet Cruze and the Honda Civic. The new Jetta is expected to get more standard equipment and the by now familiar Volkswagen exterior styling. Volkswagen might also launch only the diesel version of the Jetta considering the increasing preference to diesel cars in India. The new Jetta will get a 2-litre TDI engine capable of generating 140bhp. Volkswagen India can surprise us by launching the new Jetta with a 1.8-litre turbo diesel engine capable of generating 160bhp.

Another notable difference in the new Jetta could be the availability of the fuel sipping bluemotion technology. The new Volkswagen Jetta also promises to have a better interior space and design. We can only wonder how the auto journalists will cover the launch of the new Jetta considering the importance of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift's launch.
