Toyota To Resume Production In India
Toyota Kirloskar has said production would return to regular levels as supply of parts from Japan was improving. It also said the launch of the Etios Liva would be held in the last week of June this year as per schedule. The Etios has been a huge success with bookings beyond expectations. The Etios Liva is a small hatchback and Toyota is expecting it to repeat the Etios' success.
Toyota Kirloskar's managing director Hiroshi Nakagawa said the firm would like to reduce the backlog generated by the staggered production. There has been a monthly backlog of 10,000 units that has caused a loss of Rs 650 crore. Waiting periods for the Fortuner and Etios stands at four months, three months for the Innova and one month for the Corolla Altis. Toyota said it would increase production by working on Saturdays. The Fortuner has had a dream run so far and Toyota had to stop bookings so that orders could match production. The reduced production has increased the waiting period of the Fortuner as well as the Etios.
Toyota has two production facilities in Karnataka from which it is making the Corolla Altis, Innova , Fortuner and the Etios. The first plant has a production capacity of 80,000 units per annum while the recently developed second plant can churn out 70,000 units a year. Toyota imports the Camry, Prado, Prius and the Land Cruiser.
