Toyota Etios On Its Way To Brazil

Although Toyota has not made any official announcement about the production of the Etios Sedan in Brazil, the Japanese carmaker in its filing with the US Securities Exchange Commission has stated: “In August 2010, Toyota decided to construct a vehicle plant in Sorocaba, Brazil. This plant is expected to produce the Etios small vehicle introduced in India with an annual production capacity of 70,000 units. The plant is expected to commence production in late 2012."
Toyota developed the Etios sedan and its hatchback counterpart, the Etios Liva especially for the Indian market. About 4,000 engineers worked on its development. The Etios has been a huge sales success and the Etios Liva is also catching up very quickly.
The Toyota Etios and the Liva have put Toyota in the hugely competitive volume car segment. With bookings for both cars exceeding expectations the carmaker is expanding production by opening its second manufacturing plant.
The Brazilian car market is currently dominated by Fiat. Toyota wants to make in roads in to this market which prefers fuel efficient passenger cars very much similar to the Indian market. The Etios sedan is an obvious choice as the car not only offers good fuel efficiency but also the convenience of a sedan. We expect the Toyota Etios to get as much success in Brazil as much as it does in India.
