Tata Nano Taxis Opposed At Sri Lanka

Tata Nano Taxi
The Tata Nano which is being exported to Sri Lanka is facing a new challenge at the island nation. The use of the Tata Nano as a taxi has been strongly opposed by three wheeler taxi owners in Colombo. Soon after its launch in Sri Lanka, the Tata Nano not only impressed regular buyers but also a taxi company operating in Colombo. The company launched a Tata Nano Taxi recently.

The Tata Nano happens to be the cheapest car in Sri Lanka too and the fairs set by the taxi company is equivalent to the fares of the three wheelers. The Tata Nano Taxi is available at cheaper prices that air conditioned taxis. The three wheeler taxi owners fear the Tata Nano taxis will hamper their livelihood.

To add to the taxi owners problems, the taxi company that is offering the nano as a taxi has decided to increase its fleet of Tata Nanos. The Indian small car from Tata Motors also seems to impressed the Sri Lankan elite. Recently the president Rajapakse was seen in the passenger seat of a Nano while a prominent politician was driving it. The Federation of Self Employees (FOSE) has demanded that the number of Tata Nano taxis must not be increased.

We had earlier reported that Tata Motors had begun exporting the nano to Sri Lanka, Nepal and was also looking at developing a manufacturing facility for that Tata Nano in Africa.
