Tata Nano Diesel - The Fuel Economy Car
The Nano's fuel economyof 40kmpl will match that of a 180cc motor cycle. Running the Nano will also be comparatively inexpensive as diesel prices hover around Rs 40. The Nano has a 15 litre fuel tank, which theoretically indicates a range of 600 kilometres. The Nano has been billed as a city car and an averagy daily city commute is about 50 kilometres per day. Hence a Nano diesel driver might need to visit a fuel pump.
Tata Chairman Ratan Tata wanted to place the Nano as a replacement for two wheelers. Hence the Rs one lakh starting price. The Nano has not been a huge sales success although it is still Tata's highest selling model. The arrival of the diesel variant of the Nano will definitely increase sales. It is expected to cost about 15-20 per cent more than the petrol variant. The current Nano is priced at Rs1.5 lakh. The petrol engined Nano along with the Indiaca eV2 are India's most fuel efficient models with a fuel economy of 25kmpl. The new Nano will definitely prove to be a major competitor of Maruti Suzuki's small cars whose trump card has always been good fuel economy.
