Tata Motors To Sell Cars In CV Showrooms
Tata Motors which has an extensive dealer network for its commercial vehicles wants to use it to bolster its passenger vehicle sales. Some selected commercial vehicle showrooms in rural regions where Tata's car show rooms do not exist will feature passenger cars such as the Tata Nano, Sumo, Grande and the Venture. Similarly some relevant commercial vehicles such as the Magic and Winger will also be made available at Tata Motors' car showrooms in cities.
This strategy will allow Tata Motors to effectively use its network of commercial vehicle and passenger car showrooms without adding to the costs. Tat Motors currently has 254 passenger car showrooms and more that 1,000 commercial Vehicle showrooms. Some showrooms are exclusively for the Tata Ace commercial vehicle. The Tata Ace played an important role in the development of the Tata Nano.
A source while speaking about Tata Motor's strategy said: “Clearly , the idea is to ride on the company's formidable distribution network in the semi urban and rural markets to push sales of passenger vehicles that can also cater to non-urban demand."
Tata Motors has not officially acknowledged these reports. India's largest vehicle manufacturer saw a sharp decline in its sales during June. While commercial vehicle sales rose considerably in June, car sales fell dramatically. The management appears to have responded to this situation by providing more exposure to passenger cars.
