Tata Motors plea to oppose the West Bengal government's decision to return land to Singur farmers has been rejected. Tata Motors had filed a petition at the West Bengal High Court seeking a stay on the West Bengal Government's Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act today. The Mamata Banerjee led government passed this act to return the controversial land at Singur to farmer who previously owned it.

The Kolkata High Court has refused to hear ex-parte the Tata Motors' petition. Tata Motors had earlier said it would take legal means to oppose any move to return the land it was provided with by the West Bengal Government. The company was also critical about the language used in the bill. The West Bengal Government had stated the land had to be returned as there was no development and creation of jobs in Singur. The carmaker has objected to this and has stated that the conditions at Singur that lead to Tata Motors moving its Nano plant to Sanand in Gujarat has not been mentioned.

With the Kolkota High court rejecting to listen to its plea it remains to be seen how Tata Motors will continue its legal battle. It may be recalled that Mamata Banergee had lead strong protests against Tata Motors' Nano plant in Singur.
