Nano Cars On Expansion Spree
The current capacity in the Sanand facility is 12000 units per month with two shifts, as the facility has the installed capacity of 2.5 lakhs per units which can be increased to 5 lakh units. Tata Motors is anticipating to get ready to meet the demand if the capacity meets the peak. It is also under the proposal to meet the demand, if any for more Nanos, by increasing the capacity in its Pantnagar plant too. He was of the opinion that the current facility of Sanand has the flexible production ability.
Tata Motors has receiving 110000 enquiries regarding Nano, per month in the domestic market. There are efforts to secure more first time buyers to get into the fold of Nano, he added. At the installation moment, about 80% of the customers were those who opted Nano as their second car and the rest alone constituted the first time buyers. Now the car has the 50:50 proportion and Tata Motors wants to make this to 80% first time buyers. He said the price of Nano is not to for hike in near future despite the increased cost of inputs and raw materials. along with other car makers, Tata too hiked the prices of its other ranges by Rs36000, but not for Nano. He said though the margins from Nano is under pressure but the price is still retained.
