Tata Motors Planning Foreign Production Of Nano

The Indian carmaker has seen sales of its much publicised small car dip considerably in the last few months. There has been a very positive response to the Tata Nano in international markets such as Sri Lanka and Nepal.
Mr. Telang, while elaborating on Tata Motors plans for the Nano said: “Looking at the potential, we can think of importing the car first and later assembling it in those countries. At present we are considering many countries for assembling the Nano, but there is no timeline."
The Tata Nano's sales in July fell by a massive 64 per cent to 3,260 units. With fuel prices and bank interest rates increasing Tata Motors is expecting a further reduction in sales and is hoping the image of the world's cheapest car will help in boost sales in the international market.
Sales of the Tata Nano on year on year basis has increased by 6 per cent. But Tata has to sell a minimum of 10,000 units every month to make a profit out of the small car. The Indian carmaker is yet to reach this magic figure.
Tata Motors is also planning to restructure its dealerships this year in response to lower sales. It wants to develop product specific showrooms according to which it will create 300 new showrooms for the Nano and 100 showrooms for its SUVs such as the Aria and Safari.
