Renault Small Car To Be Above Bajaj ULC

By By: Vicky.in

Following the runaway success of Tata"s Nano a year ago, Bajaj initiated a small car called ultra low cost car (ULC) in alliance with the Japanese Nissan. In the meantime, the French car maker Renault is designing a small car just above Bajaj ULC which may hit the roads in another three years. Renault"s executive VP for sales and marketing said that Bajaj ULC will be comparatively cheaper (00) than Renault"s. incidentally Bajaj"s car will be on market with the tripartite alliance from Nissan-Renault and Bajaj. The car is expected to roll down next year. He hinted that Renault"s small car is on the talk stage and no concrete effort has been initiated as of now. He cited the earlier claim from Renault that the small car will be suited for the Indian conditions in addition to meeting the export potential.

In the meantime, Renault is scheduling five new car launches for the period 2011-2013 which includes premium hatchback, and will start with Fluence sedan and Koleos MUV in the concluding period of 2011. He insisted that the Indian car market has the potential to push another small car where Renault intends to play safe. The car should be affordable and Renault has such a niche, he added. For Renault India is another potential region after Brazil and Russia to expand the global market. For this Renault is aiming to devise some right products at right price with different features. He listed that the Indian car market has the projected volume of 6 million+ units by 2020 with more and more potential in the offing. Hence the focus is now on India rather than China, he added.

He further revealed that the Indian customers should feel that they got good product at no cheaper price and which meets every requirement. Renault"s global share is 14% as its sale increased to 2.6 million units last year of which nearly 1 million gathered outside Europe. He refused to divulge about the exact market for the compact cars in India. With an investment of Rs.4500 crore for erecting a plant in Chennai, Renault-Nissan duo has the annual yield of 4 lakh units and Nissan has already rolled out its fast selling Micra from this facility.
