Renault Targets One Lakh Sales In India
The French carmaker introduced the Fluence sedan in last year's Delhi auto show and will bring it to the market this May. Renault also plans to launch three more models by the end of 2012. Marc Nassif who is heading Renault's Indian division said the company was targeting sales of one lakh units and was confident it would reach it by 2013. Mr Nassif said the Renault Fluence was a luxury sedan that would compete against the Toyota Corolla and the Volkswagen Jetta.
Renault believes the Fluence would be a perfect car to start with in India as the market for luxury sedans has been on the upswing compared to the overall market. However, one can say Renault is highly optimistic about its sales target of one lakh units. Renault does not have a widespread image along with a established dealer network. Car sales this year are expected to slow down following the hike in fuel and commodity prices.
Another Renault Model that can be expected to be launched in India is the Koleos SUV. The Koleos can be polarising when it comes to its looks, but it has been unbeatable in terms of utility in all the markets it is currently being sold. Renault will be manufacturing its cars at its facility in Chennai. Initially the Fluence and Koleos will be produced using imported kits. Later models will source a majority of parts from India itself according to Mr Nassif. Renault will also increase the volume of parts it sources from India to 100 million Euros.
The fledging Indian car market is expected to grow three folds to six million unit sales from the current two million by 2020. Renault is keen to cash in on such growth as sales at its domestic markets have levelled out. It has to do exceedingly well if it wants to reach sales of one lakh units.
