Renault's Small Car Against Swift And Polo

In an effort to keep the price of the car down, Renault is building a new engine plant in its facility in Chennai. Renault India officials have said the new plant will become operational by April next year. This new plant is expected to produce new engines that will be used in the soon to be launched small car.
Renault has said it would be unveiling its new small car in January. It is most likely the car will be displayed for the first time at the 2012 Auto Expo to be held in Delhi. The Renault small car will be available with both petrol and diesel engines. This car will mark Renault India's serious attempt in building its market share. It currently has only one product in the market, the Fluence sedan. It will launch the Koleos SUV in October.
Both these models are assembled using imported parts and have very little localisation. However the small car along with two more new models will have extensive localisation with more than 65 per cent of the parts being sourced locally.
Len Curran, VP Sales and Marketing of Renault India said: “Our engine plant will be up and running by April." The plant can churn out over 1,00,000 engines per year. He was speaking during the official launch of Renault's showroom and the Fluence sedan in Pune.
The Renault Fluence has managed to sell just 290 units so far. Mr Curran said Renault India was not looking at volumes with the Fluence. The carmaker which has a target of a five per cent share in the Indian car market is looking at its small car to each its target.
