Renault Fluence – Preview

Renault India Managing Director Marc Nassif while speaking to the reporters at the launch said: “The Renault Fluence was designed for the Asian market and hence we are confident that it will not only shake up the segment, but also give the Indian customer their first taste of what Renault is capable of bringing to the Indian car market."
The Fluence will be assembled at Renault's plant in Chennai. The Chennai plant is a result of a joint investment of Rs.4,500 crore by Renault and its Japanese partner Nissan. Renault is expecting to sell about 1,800 Fluence sedans this year. We had earlier reported that Renault has plans to sell one lakh cars in India by 2013.
Renault said it had conducted a thorough market study before the launch of the Fluence sedan. It also tested the car on more that one lakh kilometres. Following the study, the French carmaker has increased the ground clearance of the sedan to suit Indian conditions. The petrol variant is powered by a two-litre engine while the diesel version gets a 1.5-litre engine. It is surprising to note that the diesel variant is cheaper than the petrol variant. The Renault Fluence will be competing against the Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Volkswagen Jetta and Skoda Laura.
