Piaggio's Ape Mini To Rock Roads Soon
The company"s Director for sales and marketing said the company has been laying its confidence on unique sales proposition to meet the last mile and hub concept to the level of spoke model business. He said Ape Mini will set the new road to the category from the small size sector as Piaggio has been on the high in Ape 3 wheeler sector.
Piaggio had a good run in 2010 by selling 1.96 lakh units of 3 wheelers from the net volume of 4.5 lakh units. The Maharastra facility of Piaggio has the capacity of 2 lakh three wheelers and 1 lakh four wheelers annual units. The change in the trend towards this small cargo vehicles has been due to the growing traffic congestion in major cities which face lot of hardships from bigger cargos. These small cargos serve the purpose well with their size and compatibility. In 2010, the cargo market saw the sale of 1.8 lakh units of 0.5 - 1 tonne category vehicles, which is expected to grow further this year. Piaggio is not yet ready to come out with any more models like Ape Mini other than this, he added.
