Peugeot Citroen Slated For Launch In India

At least one product from the reputed auto makers is on the market to please the desired customers. However, the French auto giant Peugeot is brushing its mind to come out with its product for this Indian market. There are reports over its proposed launch of its Citroen replacing Peugeot in a bid to make the process smooth. The company had been in exile for the last two decades once its JV with Premier Automobile failed to impress the market. Now the comeback spree is fierce in the camps of the French company and the probable locations are from Tamil nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The Peugeot"s spokesperson said everything will be formalized in this quarter and the initiative will be with Citroen brand -C1compact. Citroen will be 5-door, 5-seater at Rs5.25 lakhs in the UK and once it enters the Indian market its counter part will be Hyundai i10, Maruti WagonR and A-Star, Beat from Chevrolet, and Figo from Ford especially on engines and transmissions. For erecting its new facility the company is in need of 300 acres of land for setting up full-fledged testing track, and R&D wing. There will be provision of land for component suppliers.

The official declaration of Peugeot"s entry into India was to have been made after the formal announcement from the French President when he visited here in December. This could not materialize with the delay in land acquisition. In case of its entry, Peugeot will become the second company after Renault to invest in India.
