Nissan Produces One Lakh Micras

Nissan has exported more than 85,000 Micras while the remaining have been sold in India. Nissan will be launching a new sedan based on the V-platform. This car will be followed by the NV200 MPV. Nissan is hoping that these new cars will help improve its sales in India.
The Nissan Micra is the first car from the Japanese carmaker to be built in India. Nissan and its alliance partner Renault have a production facility in Chennai. The carmakers are planning to boost the plant's production facility to four lakh units. Nissan's Corporate vice president Gilles Normand said the Nissan Micra produced in India will eventually be exported to over 100 countries.
Managing Director and CEO of the Chennai plant, Kou Kimura, added: “I am very proud of the effort that our Chennai staff, supported by our suppliers, have made to produce one lakh Micras in such a short period of time. Today's announcement not only reflects Micra's popularity - both domestically and within export markets - but also Nissan's long-term commitment to India."
Nissan India plans to expand its reach in India to 85 per cent by the year 2013 by increasing the number of its car showrooms.
