By By: Vicky.in

Nissan has chalked out its plan to expedite the delivery of its electric car Leaf. Under these schemes, there may be increased shifts in its Japan factories to have the desired volume by this March end. As of now, the production volume has reached 3000 mark for this zero-emission car which was started for production some three months ago. Nissan is set to have the 4000 monthly units mark by the end of March for the car in its Oppama factory. In all by that time, the net production volume will hit the 10000 mark, said the company"s Head of this factory. He added that the work will be carried on even on holidays and at nightshifts.

Nissan"s intention is to top the slot in electric cars and for this it has already tied-up with the French carmaker Renault. Leaf has already reached the lands of the US and in its homeland. There are proposals to make this car in the US itself from its Tennessee and Sunderland factories in one year gap of 2012 and 2013. The journalists had a chance to visit the Oppama factory where 430000 units of Nissan"s vehicles are assembled and Leaf hatchback is also made in addition to gasoline models like Juke, Note and Cube. There are no engine plants and fuel tanks instead there were battery packs and electric motors alongside the trims of the cars.

The modules of battery and various electric specific accessories were found in exclusive sub-line. The head said the current ratio of production is that for every seven units manufactured there is one Leaf and this will go on till the limit is reached. There are 6000 units of car orders in the domestic market while it is 20000 units in the US. Not able to resist further orders, the company has suspended the bookings for the car, as Nissan has initiated the marketing this Leaf first in Portugal followed by chosen European markets. The Chief of the company in America said that the orders drawn in the US will be met with in this September. In another move, the company's JV with Renault is gearing its factories to get ready for delivering 5 lakh units of lithium-on batteries per year within another 4 years. These batteries are meant for its own vehicles, said the company. The joint CEO of the JV said that by 2020 there will be one out of every ten vehicles in the world to be found as electric version. In a bid to boost its market share the company is aiming to rule this segment where Toyota has stabilized its position with its gasoline -electric hybrid version cars.
