MRF Lifts Lockout At Kottayam

MRF, India's leading tyre manufacturer has announced that that lockout at its Kottayam plant will be lifted effective from Friday Morning. MRF had announced a lockout on Wednesday following a labour dispute from last Saturday. This is MRF's second lockout at Kottayam in the past one year. The company has not disclosed any reason for lifting the lockout.

MRF has suffered a loss of Rs.22 crores after not operating for four days. The tyre maker employs about 1,350 workers at Kottayam and manufactures tyres and tubes. This is not the first time MRF has declared a lockout at its Kottayam plant. MRF and unions have had disputes which were not completely resolved.

MRF's Kottayam plant MRF has a history of labour disputes resulting to lockouts. It had announced a lockout at its main plant in Chennai in 2007 after a dispute with the workers union. The tyre manufacturer had suffered a loss of over Rs.300 crores in 2007 after declaring a lockout at its Chennai plant.
