Mercedes-Benz To Invest 30 Billion In China

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has announced that it would be investing 30 billion RMB in China in the next three years. Audi has been the leading luxury car manufacturer in China and Mercedes-Benz is keen to overtake it. Mercedes-Benz wants to increase local production and also launch cars that are specifically designed for the Chinese car market.

The German carmaker is focusing on China after the Asian giant emerged as the world's largest car market. With increasing number of affluent citizens, China has attracted all luxury carmakers. It is already Mercedes-Benz's largest single market.

Mercedes-Benz said its sales in China had increased by 120 per cent in the first half of 2011. The luxury carmaker said sales were limited due to the low production capacity at its Beijing plant. The company intends to build the GLK SUV along with the A-C;lass and B-Class compact cars in China. While the GLK might be produced by the end of this year, the compact cars will be build in 2012. Mercedes-B also wants to launch at least one new model in China per year during the next five years.
