Mercedes Enters Indian Fleet Car Business

Mercedes-Benz, the German Luxury carmaker has entered the fleet car business by selling 90 cars to a single buyer. Mercedes-Benz wants to regain its top position in the Indian luxury car market from BMW. The company is expecting to increase its fleet sales to 10 to 15 per cent of its total sales.

India currently has about 20 fleet service providers with more than 300 cars and none of them have luxury cars. Mercedes-Benz took this as an opportunity and struck a deal with Carzonrent,a Delhi based fleet car provider.

Peter T. Honegg, managing director, Mercedes-Benz India said the company has a strong presence in the fleet services in the west and the middle east and wanted to to India to the list. Mercedes will also be leasing its cars to corporate companies.

Speaking about the carmaker leasing its cars,Mr Honegg said: “This practice is also followed worldwide but it will take some time before it matures in India. But it has got some good prospects. Firther he said Mercedes-Benz dealers would buy cars from the company and lease it too companies. Once the lease is over the cars are taken back and will be sold in the German carmaker's pre-owned car business.

10 to 15 per cent of Mercedes-Benz's global sales are accounted by fleet car sales. The carmaker wants to expand its services further in India after it launches its own financial services division.
