Maruti Strike Update: Enters 12th Day

Further it has also said it would reinstate 5 of the workers it had dismissed earlier under disciplinary grounds. Workers have insisted that the strike would end only if the Maruti Suzuki management agrees to reinstate all dismissed workers. Maruti is not keen to reinstate all the workers.
The strike at Manesar has had a telling impact on Maruti Suzuki's suppliers located around Manesar. They have also reduced production to avoid their inventories building up. The production loss so far has been predominantly of diesel engined cars.
Although Maruti Suzuki's major products are petrol powered cars, demand for its diesel cars has been on an upswing. Waiting periods of diesel cars has increased significantly after the hike in petrol prices. The carmaker fears increasing waiting periods or the non availability of its diesel cars will make its customers opt for cars from its competitors.
Maruti Suzuki fears the continuation of the strike at Manesar will eventually lead to a huge blow to its sales. Car sales in India during May was the slowest in recent years and Maruti's sales were not too encouraging.
