Maruti Strike Enters Seventh Day

Maruti Suzuki Strike
The strike at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant continued in to its seventh day disrupting production to the tune of about 5,400 units. About 2,000 Maruti Suzuki workers are now involved in the strike that started last Saturday. The Maruti Suzuki strike at Manesar is being supported by employees at the carmaker's Gurgaon plant too.

Maruti Suzuki's management has been in talks with the striking workers since Monday. The workers have been demanding official recognition of a new workers union. The week long strike has now gained steam after workers from various firms operating in the Manesar- Gurgaon area expressing their support to the workers.

Maruti Suzuki has estimated the loss due to the strike at Rs. 540 crore. The strike has had a negative impact on Maruti Suzuki's shares. The Indian carmaker's shares were down 1.63 per cent or Rs.19.80 to Rs. 1,195.25.
