Maruti Stops Swift Production; Launch New Version

Maruti Suzuki has already stopped accepting bookings for the current Swift. The New Swift that was unveiled late last year by Maruti Suzuki's parent company Suzuki in Hungary, has been lauded by auto enthusiasts across the globe. The New Swift is slightly larger than its predecessor and is powered by an engine that offers better fuel economy and reduced emissions.
Maruti Suzuki dealers have started accepting bookings for the new Swift which is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current version. There was a trial production of the new Swift at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant. With the carmaker moving production of the Swift to to Gurgaon plant, it is yet unclear if the new Swift will be built at Manesar or at Gurgaon.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift can be considered as India's first premium hatchback and it can be credited with bringing a revolutionary change in the India hatchback B to B+ segment.
The new Swift is available with a choice of two engine in Europe – a 1.3 litre version and a 1.2 litre version. It is yet unclear if Maruti Suzuki will also make these two engine available. Suzuki has made the new Swift larger yet lighter by using high strength steel. It has also added new safety features, improved interior designs and increased interior space.
The current swift comes with petrol, diesel and CNG engines in India and costs between Rs.3.9-5.5 lakhs. The new Swift will be launched at a time when it will face increasing competition. The Hyundai i20, Skoda Fabia, Nissan Micra, Toyota Etios Liva and the Fiat Punto already pose a credible threat. Further other carmakers have also announced plans to launch competitors for the Swift. The most important one being Renault. The French carmaker has announced it would unveil a new hatchback in India during the 2012 Auto Expo.
