Maruti Delivers Its 10 Millionth Car

The major car manufacturer in the Indian market Maruti Suzuki has just crossed a new milestone in its journey. The company delivered its 10 millionth unit from its Gurgaon plant to be a part of the elite group of car makers to achieve this feat globally. To reach this milestone, the company has traveled varied phases since its inception as Maruti Udyog Limited some 23 years ago. The status of the car is the Rs1 crore car termed as WagonR VXi and the company"s MD acknowledged the customers for their support in all these years of operation. He attributed them as the valid foundation with values and practice for achieving this feat. The company withdrew its plan of celebrating this event as the apex company has been facing natural disaster out of earthquake and tsunami. He said the landmark singles out the company as the first Indian manufacturer to join the select club of automobile manufacturers globally.

The companies which have this reputation are Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Renault in addition to Maruti"s Japanese apex Suzuki Motors Limited. The MD pointed out that Maruti Suzuki has the privilege of manufacturing 5 million units in the last six years. The company started its business with the delivery of Maruti 800 in 1983 December and subsequently in 1994 it delivered its first millionth unit. The company received the cumulative volume of 2 million in 1997 and the year 2005 saw the company rolling out its 5th million unit. In all these 28 years of its operation, Maruti Suzuki has so far rolled out 16 passenger vehicles in the domestic market and has established its position as the top most maker in the country. As of now the company holds 45% share in the domestic passenger vehicle market.

The rare feat for the company is its consistent growth and the net revenue during 2009-10 stood at Rs30119.7 crore against Rs20358.3 crore during 2008-09 while it was Rs17860.3 crore in 2007-08. The company has facilities to deliver 12 lakh annual units and in addition is setting up two more units in Manesar from which 5 lakh annual units will come out. The net capacity from these facilities will accrue to 17 lakh annual units in another two years.
