Maruti Shifts Dzire Production To Gurgaon

The Swift DZire is India's highest selling sedan and demand for its diesel variant has sky-rocketed recently. With waiting periods of over six months Maruti Suzuki fears customers will choose to buy other cars rather than the Swift DZire.
Maruti Suzuki's Gurgaon plant is the carmaker's first manufacturing facility in India. He carmaker will carry out layout changes at the plant to accommodate the production of the DZire. A Maruti Suzuki spokesman said: “There are some changes in the production plan that would be carried from next week, where DZire is being shifted from Manesar to the Gurgaon plant. The Swift will continue to be manufactured at Manesar plant."
Manesar was the only plant which manufactured the Suzuki Swift and the DZire. Maruti Suzuki suffered revenue losses of Rs.630 crore following the strike at Manesar. The Gurgaon plant has not witnessed any labour unrest and the company management wants to ensure production of the DZire will not be affected. With clear signs of unionism increasing in Manesar, Maruti Suzuki does not want a repetition of last months incidents.
The Swift was initially being produced at Gurgaon but the company moved its production to meet local demand. The DZire and the SX4 sedans along with the A-Star and Swift.
Maruti Suzuki has recently modified operations at its two plants so that all its models can be build in any production line. The changes were made so that the company is flexible enough to respond to changing market demands. As per the new plan, the Swift DZire will be manufactured in Gurgaon while the Swift which is expected to get a facelift will continue to be manufactured at Manesar.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Swift in August. India's leading carmaker is also building a new plan at its Manesar facility. It will also begin building a new plant in Rajastan soon.
