Maruti Suzuki Expects High Sales In Festive Season

Suzuki Swift
Car sales in India have not been very encouraging in the past few months. After registering a 30 per cent increase in sales last year, the Indian auto sector only managed a single digit growth so far this year. Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker which has captured more than half the market share saw its sales fall by 8.8 per cent in June. Increasing fuel costs and interest rates have been instrumental in reducing car sales.

Maruti Suzuki is expecting to bounce back with the arrival of the new Swift. Company Chairman RC Bhargava has said that after registering a growth of more than 30 per cent in a year, it was quite natural that a slow year followed it. He is of the opinion that fuel costs and interest rates were not the only factor to affect sales. He also expressed hope that the upcoming festive season starting will provide a boost to the car industry.

The festive season around Diwali is the best selling period for the car industry in India. Mr Bhargava said Maruti Suzuki was preparing itself for a surge in sales. Maruti is expected to launch an MPV to take on the Toyota Innova after it launches the New Swift. There are no other new models from Maruti Suzuki's stables. However, we can expect some updates to the existing models.

Maruti Suzuki is striving hard to improve its inventory. The recent strike at its Manesar plant has increased waiting periods for some of its models by at least a month. The carmaker has to increase stocks well before the festive season or else it will risk missing out on a huge number of sales.
