The Maruti 800 is back! India's most loved car which was slowly phased out of cities due to emission norms is making a comeback in a brand new avatar. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that it is developing a new 800cc engined small car that will replace the current Maruti 800.

Maruti Suzuki's engineers have said they are working on a new 800cc petrol engine that will be developed completely in India. To be used on a new car

Maruti Suzuki's managing executive officer (engineering) IV Rao said the new model would not replace the M800. With the Maruti 800 being slowly phased out we believe this new car will be an ideal replacement. Mr Rao while speaking about this new car said: “This will be an all-new car, though based on an existing platform. The idea is to do it in-house at Maruti, with minimal support from our Japanese parent, Suzuki."

The new Maruti 800 will be built on the same platform used by the Alto according to insider reports. However the new car will get an all new exterior design with sleeker headlights and aerodynamic design.

Maruti Suzuki is planning to price the new 800 slightly higher than the best selling Alto hatchback. Although this might create some internal competition for the Alto the Indian carmaker is confident that both cars will get a huge following in the Indian car market.

This new Maruti Suzuki 800cc car can be considered as a competitor to the planned H800 small car from Hyundai. The small car field is getting even more competitive with Nissan also announcing plans to build a low cost small car. The new car from Maruti can also be a direct competitor of the Tata Nano.
